it's been a while. livejournal is full of tumbleweeds.

i am teaching small children how to read and attempting to finish my last term at PSU. my body's been less than healthy lately, but i've made up for it in responsibility. i am thinking a lot about my next steps, and about transitions into phases into passages into integrity of character into guilt into death into brain matter into memory into goodness into negotiation into hibernation into sunlight into into into.

so far so good.

PSU decided to fuck me over by cancelling the one class i needed to graduate, but thanks to my badass handling of their online registration system i reconfigured my schedule in a mad mess of drops and adds -- now everything is alright. i am happy because i just ordered this amazing chicha music comp, i'm about to eat some cereal in bed, and i have some very happy memories from my trip to seattle. summer, i own you.

the den of our house in atlanta had dark orange and green shag carpet, wood paneling, mini deer horns hanging from the wall, and a large stone fireplace. basically, it was the best room ever.

i've been having dreams about cumberland. i think nostalgia has transformed my memory of the island into a dreamscape. feral horses left by the spanish missionaries, maritime forests full of wild oak, rolling dunes, shark's teeth, the ruins of the carnegie mansion. the island is so vacant and wild. i'd love to return someday.

i would love it if any of the fashion-savvy californians on my friends list could give me a couple of tips on what boutiques i could approach to have them carry my shirts. i'm looking for any independent/quirky not-too-high-end stores that are interested in street fashion, and also any boutiques that support eco-fashion. we're looking for anything in the bay area and LA.

this guy was/is ubiquitous in mexico. luis miguel is an absolute guilty pleasure. i can't believe i'm admitting this.

xuxa had the best outfits with the highest shoulder pads! she was brazilian and sang for kids all over latin america.

CEPILLIN

although as a kid i had various cepillin LPs, i thought he was scary. in his day he was the most famous clown in mexico, on par with bozo in the US. he's FRIGHTENING.

ONDA VASELINA

as a five year old I had fierce love for this group. one of my first tapes was from onda vaselina. they had this kind of 50's rock vibe mixed with choreographed kiddie dances.

worth noting: onda vaselina repackaged itself as the late 90's teen pop sensation OV7. they were really contrived and poppy. some of the original kids were in this version of the group. as you can see, they still held onto the choreography! this song was so overplayed in mexico that i can probably do a decent karaoke version. not that i ever would...

i'm in the process of searching for fabric to make curtains for two of our rooms (bedroom and workroom). IKEA fabric is lovely, and i'm hoping some attentive ebaying will get me some. if not, i will have to wait for a trip to the washington ikea or wait for the portland one to open.

summer rolls out ahead of me like it always does. everything looks promising in its light.

lately i've been perpetually smelling like coffee beans and reading such choice titles as Meeting, Mating, (...and Cheating): Sex, Love, and the New World of Online Dating. this was for my sociology paper, not for pleasure! pleasure comes soon enough, when school ends and noel's parents arrive. we'll be going up to canada (vancouver, bc) for a few days & also back to the beach.

this morning i realized i had missed a final exam AND a jury summons, due to misinformation and personal stress. i wanted to punch someone in the face. luckily, after some frantic emailing and waiting in court, all parties were understanding (thanks, government, profs, etc!). both have been rescheduled.

another thing: more likely than not, i will be moving to mexico city after i graduate. if i stay on track, this will happen fall of next year. it's an idea that has been carefully taking hold of my projections of the future. my hopes and dreams, if you will. i'm not sure what else to say about it yet. just that i'm very excited about it.

since i work at the Oregon Health and Science University, i have the privilege of riding the new portland air tram for free. it amazingly peaceful and calm, and as one lady remarked next to me, "it's the same height as when you're dreaming of flying above the city." and it is, it really is. although it may not live up to the hype (nor the money invested in it), riding it across the city for 3 minutes has become the bright spot in my day. much better than the bus, anyway.
